Terms and Conditions

Last updated 2026-10-04

This page is only available in English.

These terms apply when you use tianengineering.com and app.tianengineering.com. When you create an account, you agree to them. They are written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us.

1. Who you’re agreeing with

TIAN Industrial Automation is a brand run by Mario John Samuel Tangen (“John”, “we”), a private individual in Sweden.

Contact: john@tianengineering.com

2. What TIAN is

TIAN offers online courses and articles for automation engineers.

Right now everything is free: the articles, the newsletter and the course Automation Engineering 101. If we add paid courses later, we’ll say clearly what is free and what costs money before you start. Paid courses will come with their own extra terms, which you’ll see before you buy.

3. Who can use TIAN

  • You must be 18 or older to create an account.
  • One account per person. The details you give must be true. Use your own legal first and last name, as on your ID, because it will appear on your certificates.
  • Keep your password to yourself. If you think someone else is using your account, change your password and tell us.

4. Your account

Your account is personal and can’t be given or sold to someone else.

In the app, under Account, you can:

  • change your name and email address,
  • download your data,
  • reset your progress on a course, and
  • delete your account at any time.

How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

5. What you may do with the content

You get a personal right to use the courses and articles for your own learning. You may not:

  • copy, record, download, share or resell course content,
  • share your account or test answers with others, or
  • use bots or scripts to copy content from the sites.

Quoting a short part of an article with a link back to it is fine.

6. Fair use

Please don’t:

  • cheat on quizzes or tests,
  • try to break into, overload or disrupt the sites, or
  • use TIAN for anything illegal.

7. Grading

Quizzes and the final test are graded automatically against fixed answer keys. If you think a result is wrong, email us and John will check it by hand.

8. Our content

All courses, videos, texts, images and the TIAN name and logo belong to TIAN or are used with permission.

9. Changes to the service

We keep improving TIAN. That means we may update, move or remove free content, and change how things work. If we make a big change that affects you, we’ll tell you in advance.

10. Safety and liability

The courses teach general knowledge. They are not instructions for a specific machine or site.

When you work on real equipment, always follow:

  • the safety rules where you work,
  • the manufacturer’s instructions, and
  • the law.

Only do work you’re qualified and authorised to do.

We do our best to keep TIAN available and correct, but we can’t promise it will always work without interruption or that every detail is error-free. We’re not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost income.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under the law, or our responsibility if we cause harm on purpose or through gross negligence.

11. Ending

You can stop using TIAN and delete your account whenever you want.

Deleting your account is permanent. It removes your progress and results, and your access to everything on your account, including courses you have bought and certificates you have earned. We can’t restore it afterwards. It doesn’t take away your rights as a consumer, for example to withdraw from a purchase or to complain about a fault. If you want to use those, contact us before you delete your account.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that belongs to someone under 18. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you why first, and give you a chance to fix the problem.

12. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before then.

The date at the top shows the current version. We store which version you accepted.

13. Law and disputes

Swedish law applies to these terms. If you live in another country, you keep the protection your own country’s consumer laws give you. You can also take a dispute to court where you live.

If something goes wrong, please contact us first. Most things can be sorted out with an email.
